You just go to SecondLife.com, and sign up. You need a cell phone or credit card to authorise the account and once your registered, just download the software and enjoy the game. Though if you want to use a "furry" character, you have to rather get a free set of avatars or buy them with the in-game money.
Thanks, though I don't want a "furry" character. Hm, I don't think I'll start until I can get my own computer, seeing as I don't think the person whose computer I'm borrowing would appreciate me downloading software to it.

That's fine =3, you can almost be what you want in that game since everything in the game was created and scripted by the users . Also, yea I wouldn't do that either unless they were OK with SL being on their PC.
Well, SL has its own currency known as the "Linden Dollar", and things do cost money. However you can get money from selling things, slowly over time, from others helping you, or from real money (though its cheap, $4 US gets you L$1,000).
Also, no, you don't need a high end graphics card. This game runs on my laptop, which it just have a basic on-board Intel GMA950 graphics on it. However my desktop PC does have a 8800 GTS in it .
